Hi, I'm belated filling out my tax return for 2013 and was wondering could notifying revenue of my civil partnership last year increase the amount of tax I have to pay; I earn in the region of 110K and my partner earns about 30K - any advice appreciated.
What you did you enter into the Civil Partnership? From what I know rules relating to civil partnership are the same as for marriage. You can apply for relief in the year of civil partnership and you can transfer rate bands and tax credits between one another up to a certain point. Take a look at the Revenue website and Leaflet IT 2 should be of assistance.
You may even be in for a tax refund solely on the basis of the above information.
Thanks Dublin66 - we had our ceremony in June; I'll look up that leaflet, a refund would be excellent, but I'm in general worried about paying even more tax!
