Can a new Goverment change the cuts to disability, Blind and Carers allowance without agreement of EU and IMF. I assume new rates apply from January 2011.
Are FG and Labour just playing politics, or can they reverse these cuts ? if they get into office. Will they, is another issue

They could but they would have to find an equivalent amount by cutting other payments and/or raising extra taxes - so by and large, it's all political grandstanding and not at all terribly relevant.

HI jpd
It is very relevant to the disabled and carers. I know some "so called disabled" abuse the system, however most have medicals, or provide MRI, CT Scans, at the lower end, to proof of cancer, or mental health issues, or some times a combination of all. I just think that cutting 4% across the board in not fair. When it comes to children care, it makes me despair. Its not a political, but social issue.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound mean or callous - but given the size of the hole we have got ourselves into ( and I use the word "we" deliberately) - it would be better if when each lobby group when proposing that they should not have their benefits cut or their taxes raised, propose exactly what they propose instead instead of saying that "they" are special and deserve special attention and that "others" must pay. Nimbyism will not get us out of this.

It is a political issue - but there's little or no discussion of this only lots of talk as to why "we" must be protected.

I am just asking the question, if a new goverment can reverse some of the budget, without referal to EU/IMF. There is major abuse of the SW system, example 23% reduction on JB and JSA during the period of Volcanic Ash.
Child benifit should be investigated, there a far few controls. It is well known in border counties that some are claiming SW on both sides, even when we had money. I am prepared to to accept a reduction, if it fair

The new government would have to bring in another budget adn go through the same process as the current government.
I dont understand your statement about claiming 'both sides' of the border. If it relates to CB, then there are differnt rules regarding EU residency of the children and parents than other benfits (the issue has been relentlessly teased out in threads here). If it relates to weekly benefits, there is littel occurring due to sweapping of information, matching of computer records etc.

They are also presenting figures showing that the unemployment numbers have decreased, which I have some doubts about. Many people are no longer in receipt of JB or JA but still have no jobs.
They have exhausted their JB claim and not eligible for JA because of means testing, but they are still unemployed
