Hi All

I am getting to the age now where I am seriously thinking of taking about 3-4 months off to recharge my batteries and was wondering, if I was to do this can I claim back tax for the period I am off and if so how much can I expect to get back. I would look to resigning from current job and after about 3-4 months go looking on the job front again.

Mnay thanks

Your tax credits are normally spread evenly over the year. If you find that you are not earning (enough) to use them up then you should be able to claim overpayments of tax back either at that point or at the year end (by writing to Revenue with details about your situation including a copy of your P60 and asking for a P21 balancing statement). Form P50 is normally used when unemployed but may also apply in this situation:

Form P50 - First Claim for Repayment During Unemployment
