Can I get rent allowance for a room in an owner occupied house?

Hi, I hope someone can help.

I lost my job last year when the company i was working with went out of business and unfortunately I have yet to find another job. I have been receiving rent allowance since that time but I now have to find somewhere else to live as my flatmate is moving out and I can't afford to stay on my own.
What I need to know is if I can take a room in an owner occupied house and still receive rent allowance.

Yes, you can apply for Rent Supplement if you're renting a room in a house, provided there's a lease or tenancy agreement in place and the rent is under the max rent limit for the area.
