I am currently a first year mature student in an undergraduate course. I wasn't eligibile for btea or the top up grant even though I appealed. I get the basic grant and work part time. I had a previous illness which has now returned. It is exacerbated by the job I do. Some years ago I was advised by my doctor to give up certain types of employment which I had done, I thought I could manage a part time position but apparently not. I can't afford to quit my job but if I have no other alternative I may be forced to leave college which is something I really don't want to do. I am wondering if I could possibly be entitled to some form of payment? Does being in the education system affect my eligibility? Hope someone can shed some light on this for me.
