Hi is it possible for an executor of a will (my sister) to change the locks on the family home after my father dies. The reason I ask is because some siblings would think nothing of helping themselves to anything they want without it being discussed with the rest of the family. Things that would be of a sentimental value. None of us live at home but have keys to my fathers house. I know it sounds drastic but thats families for you.
Actually the executor does have a legal right to change the locks. If the executor has a well founded belief that assets would otherwise walk, the executor might even have a duty to do so.
I am assuming, of course, that there is nobody still living (or entitled to be still living) in the house.
