Buying up North

Is it worthwhile buying a new TV up North for use in the South.
We have looked around here in Dublin and are considering heading up North to buy as we may get a beter bargain.
I assume they can be used in the South.

I remeber a friend of mine getting a tv from the uk a few years ago. As far as I remeber the following was true. UK tvs normally only have a UHF frequency on them. If you are on standard NTL (for example) the channels are broadcast on VHF. To get around this you need a thing called a televerter which will set you back about €100. If you are using a decoder based system (sky etc), you should not need this as they are normally scart based. Another way around the first situation would be to use you video as your channel source but this is a bit of a waste. Hope this helps.
