Buying shares in a weakened Northern Rock

Is it an astute thing to do to buy up shares in Northern Rock at the present time?
Surely with the backing of the Bank of England now, it's unlikely to go bust....and even if it does go bust, doesnt that usually lead to a take over and consequently an increase in share value?
