Hi,
Is there anyone that could steer me in the right direction on how to set up an account with a broker, and whats involved in buying shares.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Have a look at the Key Posts, where you are sure to find answers.

As a rule of thumb, shares are not suitable for 'dummies'. If you don't know where to begin, you may be better off investing through a unit linked or exchange traded fund (ETF), where charges are lower and the investment decisions are made by the fund manager.

Hi Kellerman, think some of the best advice you can obtain is to
read read read. I spent about five weeks in here prior to signing up.
So many times you will decide on a course of action and 20/30 posts
later will have a totally polarised view.

One thing you need to learn is that when you commit and execute
an order, walk away. Keep tabs on it but any rash decision as a result
of markets/indications may come back to bite you. Markets will even out
over time and hopefully show you a gain.

Then again I am pretty new so don't take my word, read & browse....

Best of luck !
