Buying qualifying years and UK Civil Service pension

Hi all, I've looked through the threads and have tried Googling as well but can't find a answer! I have 13 qualifying years and am in process of submitting the cf83 to apply for additional years at class 2. My query is that I was employed in the UK civil service for approx 7 years and have a small civil service pension from that time, does the UK state pension affect the Civil Service pension at all?

I only realised this week that I could apply for additional years so I know I'm leaving it very close to cut off date, hoping that once I get the form in the post (registered!) then it will be accepted-fingers crossed!

Submit your CF83 and see what comes back. Get it in this week, time is running out.

Thanks DannyBoyD, getting it printed tomorrow and then reg post it Tue! Just not sure if I can claim the state pension along with the UK civil service pension, I find it all very confusing, pensions in general I find confusing

I have studied the Teachers Pension Scheme TPS in Britain.

As fas as I can see, it is not integrated with the State Pension.

It is separate, unlike in Ireland.

Thanks for the reply, so am I understanding correctly that they are 2 separate pensions and buying additional years will not impact the civil service pension?

There are several different UK civil/public service pensions - depending on year of entry (basic outline here: https://www.which.co.uk/money/pensi...service-pension-scheme-explained-a2xZV8g94vVR)

The only impact on the State Pension seems to be for those who entered the pension scheme before 1st April 1980. This is a reference to it for NHS pensioners:

"NI MOD is a reduction to your pension when you reach SPA.

It applies to members who joined the scheme after 30 June 1949 and before 1 April 1980.

NHS Pensions is required to abate your pension to take into account that you may also receive a State Pension. This is if you're in receipt of your state pension or have deferred payment of this. The reduction will be from when you become eligible to receive it."

Thanks for the replies and very useful information, really appreciate it! Have now sent the form via reg post so guess nothing left to do but wait! It should make it in time before the 5th hopefully....
