Hi

Not sure if this is the right forum but if anyone can advise that'd be great. I was just wondering how to go about finding some land to build on. We live in West Dublin and would ideally like to build our own house in around this area/North Kildare/Meath. Apart from keeping an eye out on the property websites, is there any better way of identifying and purchasing land? Many thanks
 
try putting a classified ad in the local papers and more importantly, call in to some of hte local auctioneers, especially the smaller ones who are long established as they can have valuable contacts.
 
Buying a site in these areas and building a house on it is almost impossible for anyone who cannot prove local need. Much better to buy a derelict place and get permission to replace it with a new house.
 
Go visit all the agents in the area, and even still a lot of housing sites are sold via "word of mouth" by farmers/landowners rather than advertised publicly.

However, as a previous poster said, the PP will be you main problem.

Watch out for executors sales.
Buy a map and drive around.
Note any derelict or houses in need of repair.
Check the land registry to see who owns them.
There is no substitute for local intelligence so buy a Meath jersey and listen to old recordings of Navan man in action to acquire local language skills.

ps are you getting the Meath Chronicle and any other local papers and watch the small ads.
