Am looking to buy a sofa and armchairs - is it worth going up the North for this? (I'm closest to Enniskillen, not Newry).

Is it worth the hassle? How much could you save? Any good places to recommend?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

I suppose it depends how much you save as to how much hassle you are willing to put up with. We looked as sofas here in Next at 1100euro and the same sofa in Belfast was £799, we are looking into courier companies that we can get the sofa delivered to and then sent on to us. Even with this hassle we will be saving a considerable chunk of cash

Very worth while buying up North, I was in a furniture shop in Banbridge yesterday and couldn't believe how cheap furniture was compared to South and that is taking into account stg diff and maybe delivery fee, still way cheaper.

i am looking to buy new furniture for my house , where in newry would be the best place to go?

Just go beyond Newry for 5 mins on the main road, you will come to a roundabout and there is a retail park to the right (Don't know the name), but there is at least 2 furniture shops here including B&Q, Halfords, Curry's, Smyths. I was pricing TV units for flat screen Tv they were in around £199Stg compared to 450-600 Euro here in south. Also saw lots of signs along the road advertising furniture at various points.

I don't want to personally critisise anybody as everyone has their own budget & in todays economic climate every penny counts- HOWEVER (there's always a but!!)

Hi,
Can anyone tell me if there is a Next store or a Laura Ashley store near Newry and if so what is their furniture selection like?

I've been looking at a suite of furniture in Harvey's up north. They are still giving pound per euro and have quoted me a decent reduction on the shop quoted price. Has anyone bought from them and if so what is the quality like and value for money?

With furniture its hard to tell whether you are getting a good bargain in the north unless you can directly compare the model, the leather, delivery costs.
Personally I think if you go into a shop in the south and negotiate you will get just as good a deal. With the likes of Next and other big named companies the price on the ticket is the price so its hard to know whether that's a good price in the first place and you wont be able to compare the model as these companies probably have the design to themselves. All you are doing is comparing the Next UK price to the Next price in the south. That dosent mean its good value in the first place.

Hi Webbs,

Just to mention, I ordered furniture from Newry and am getting it delivered by Next at a small fee. You could ask them instead of hiring your own transport?!

Yes that's all very true and it's hard to really know. I'm looking in Harvey's furniture so there is no store in the south to compare the prices with. All I can go on is if someone has ever bought from them then I'd like to know what their final thoughts are.
