Business name owner only, Tax Return. Why?

Hi guys,

I am a business name owner for the last 3 years, however I was never registered for VAT or being self-employed.

I registered business name and never traded so far as I am involved in different activities. Suddenly today I received Return of Income for 2011 on my name. I’ve never received it before.

My question is whether business name owners obliged to file an annual tax return?

Is it form 12?

There could be any number of reasons for it and may not be connected to your registration of a business name.

What other reasons could be? Yes, it is form 12.
 
Have you exercised any share options or had any other non-PAYE "income" in the last 24 months?
 
No, never dealt with shares. Didnt get any income in 2011, was unemployed most of the year.
 
Yes, it was.
I found out that form could be sent to me randomly and there is nothing to do with a business name.
