recieved a letter from a "licenced business coach" today, to be honest i have no interest in any way however out of pig interest was wondering who was this person "licenced " by?

any ideas?

A franchisor perhaps? Certainly there is no statutory licensing regime: anybody who wants can call herself a busines coach.

They rang me today looking to see was I going to attend. The conversation went something like this:
Linda:in very "nice" accent.- thanks for taking this call we invited you to a seminar that will change the way you do business
JM "before we talk about that can you tell me who you are licenced by"
Linda- what did you mean?
JM -your letter is signed -
Joe Bloggs
Licenced Business Coach.
Linda- it is a ligit business-
JM - so is a grocery shop but it isn't licenced unless it sells drink.
Linda -we are part of one of the biggest....
I interupted finishing the sentance-
...franchise like McDonnells.
JM - before we talk more i would like to know exactly who you are Licenced due to the fact that as far as I know there is no Licensing authority in Ireland for Business Coach's
Linda- I will ring you back.
Jm -Talk later

To be honest I doubt if that phone call will ever happen.

Do the Department of Transport licence coaches?

To be absolutely fair, it is technically correct to call yourself "Licenced" even if the Licence is from a Franchisor.

However, it would have been more transparent for this lady to described her business as "Licenced by XYZ limited " rather than the slightly misleading "Licenced" tag.

It reminds me of that Far Side cartoon with a clown with a large rubber hammer being questioned by two police men while standing over a couple of unconscious people. One of the policemen reads from a card that the clown has given him and says, “well what do you know, he DOES have a licence for this.”

You should have license. A great business coach can help a business owner or manager make significant advances in their business in a relatively short period of time.

And a half decent business coach wouldn't respond to a thread from 2006!!!
