I recently reinstalled Windows XP on my pc after wiping everything off and am reinstalling all my programs and devices. I have installed my belkin wireless adaptor and the message is that the signal is excellent, but when I open internet explorer no pages can be displayed. Any suggestions please?? Thanks

Looks like your computer is talking to the router. That's a good start.
Did it ask you for a password (WEP or WPA) in order to connect to the router ?

If not, then your router is unsecured, and anybody can connect to it.

It's the router that connects to the internet (not the pc).
Your router is totally unaffected by the reinstall of XP

If your pc is connected to the router, then everything should work as before.

It's an eircom connection and I have entered the network encription key. I can access the internet on my laptop with the same connection.

From what you have told us, your pc is talking to the router, and we know your router is connecting to the internet.

At this point, your internet should just magically work on your PC.

I'd say turn off your router and pc for a few seconds, then turn on both again (in any order).

Maybe it works on the reboot.

Failing that, I just don't know, I am as confused as you are

Try typing 192.168.1.254 in the web address field.
This should access your eircom broadband box directly, and see if you have IP addresses there for Gateway, and DNS servers which are your logical pathway from the PC to the internet via the box.

Thanks for your replies and help! I restarted everything and then deleted the connection. When I reconnected it worked!
Many thanks Annie
