broadband enabled exchange

Hi

While its usually difficult/impossible to get a date for an exchange to be enabled, eircom do seem to update the list of enabled exchanges at www.eircom.ie/check quickly once a particular exchange has gone live.

I am on a BB enabled exchange, but too far for the line to be suitable (>5km).
Does this mean that people too far from a BB enabled exchange can never get DSL BB ?

I'm in the same boat redstar. There are ways and means to extend the reach of ADSL from the exchange (repeaters, upgrading the exchange to ADSL2+ for example) but there seems to be little interest from Eircom in extending the reach outside major towns and cities.....their figures and broadband PR always seem to talk about the number of lines in broadband enabled exchanges and not the number of lines that actually qualify for broadband in these exchanges.

(Wimax is an alternative technology but again Eircom have said they will only roll this out to customers in urban areas who cannot get DSL - I remain hopeful that Digiweb will expand their services!)

Guess i'm stuck with 3G USB mobile BB for a while yet, then. Its ok, but certainly not true BB speed.
