My mortgage is €200k, on a variable rate. The property today is worth €450k.
I'm thinking of remortgaging up to €350k on a fixed 5 year rate and investing the extra €150k in shares after paying off the old mortgage.
This would double my mortgage repayments, which is fine.
What do you think of borrowing to invest, given the outstanding mortgage? I understand the risks of investment and am prepared to hold the stocks for the long run if needs be.
Would the banks give me the money? It might be hard to explain an extra €150k for "home improvements".
