I am wondering if you need to be qualified in anything to do some bookeeping / VAT returns etc from home?

Also should it be something that I could do can anyone recomend a not so pricy accounts package as a start off with?

I am at home looking for a way to suplement my partners income a bit for baby #2 arrives and would consider myself to have enough skills to do the job.

Do you want to run a bureau style operation, doing bookkeeping for multiple companies, or are you just helping one company out?

If you are interested in processing payroll, you can set up unlimited companies, employees and users for €120+VAT/year with Payback.

Well I would hope to have more than one client if it took off. Im not looking for a full time job, but a few clients would do the job.

Well I would try the product first, most companies offer a free trial, to see if it does everything you require. Consider as well whether or not you are going to be charged extra for a bureau version of the product, or for setting up additional companies. Accounts packages you could try are;

www.mamut.ie
quickbooks.intuit.com

(I also have an association with mamut payroll)

Thanks Il have a look at them.

I dont suppose you happen to know anything about starting up a bookeeping business.. Ie do I have to register as a company etc? Or can i just do it as a mixture as long as I report the income in an income TaxReturn

I personally wouldn't be able to advise you how best to set up and structure your business (I'll leave that to the resident accountants!). There are quite a few posts on this already on AAM;

can anyone email me a standard spreadsheet that is used for book-keeping?

thanks
