Hi all, new to the site so big hello to all. I would like to know if anybody has advice on this, I want to start a boiler service and maintenance business and am wondering is there a specific course available as opposed to full on plumbing course. Any info much appreciated.
FAS in Ballyfermot do a 10 week course. Would highly recommend it but there's a problem. If you set yourself up for servicing boilers you will only get call outs when there is a problem and it's a dirty job.
As of from today, it is illegal to work on/service gas boilers/applainces unless you are a registered gas installer. To become RGI, you would need to do a 10 week course with either FAS or a private centre. To be eligible for a course, you will need a fetac level six or equivalent in a related trade..etc Plumbing and heating, refrigeration etc.
These courses are designed to train you in safety and legislation. It will not teach you who to fault find, service or install appliances. You can however do another private course for this, it is quite expensive.
the rules with regard to oil boilers is a bit more lax for now.
