HI,

My girlfriend who is Finnish took out a loan with the BOI last July for 5k. Recently she expressed that the interest payments were quite high so I took a look at the a/c. What follows is a summary of the a/c

DATE.......DETAILS....................DEBIT....CREDIT...BALANCE
..............DEBIT APP:.000692662..............5000
4 JUL.......NLE.PPI.000692662......495.08................-5495.08
25 JUL.....FROM A/C SO...........................137.15...-5357.93

And so on since then. Now I cant ring the BOI on her behalf as they would not talk to me and her English is not 100% so if they explained what is was to her she may not get it.

So what the hell is NLE PPI 00692662 which immediately puts nearly €500 extra onto her loan???? I have a hunch that its Payment Protection Insurance,if so it does seem excessive to charge her an extra 10% of the loan value then the interest on top of that!

Cheers

Almost certainly, it is the payment protection insurance. Search for other threads on PPI to see how others have addressed this issue.
