Hi Guys

Anyone know how to block a particular website on your home PC - a friend's teenager seems to have developed some sort of addiction to a chat room so he wants to keep the PC and internet for them but doesn't want kids accessing this website. He has explorer.

From Internet Explorer go to Tools->Internet Options->Privacy->Sites add the address of the website and block. If the user is particularly computer savvy and can get around this then you could add the following entry to the host file on the PC, replace the website name with the address you wish to block. I believe the HOST file is located in c:\I386

127.0.0.1 www.websitename.com

Hosts file is normally in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc.

Hi, I am trying to block Bebo and Facebook from my home PC, I have tried above and overwitten cookies to disallow 3rd Party cookies but it still is allowing me to open both sites. Is there something else that I need to do after blocking the site to enable it? Does it require logging out and closing down the PC?

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

What kind of router do you have? My linksys router lets me block sites by URL or keyword.

Sorry Car, not very computer literate, what do you mean by router, I have eircom broadband? Is there some way to check what router I have??

The box that connects to your phone line to provide broadband - what make and model?

What you are looking for is parental control software. Have a look at [broken link removed]

Its a Netopia 2247NWE?? Does this make sense?

Comanche, I have looked at K9, how will this block BEBO etc. do I identify the sites I want to block as I allow them on things like Disney/ Stardoll etc. so don't want all these being stopped, thanks.

Yeah it works a bit like a bouncer on a pub door, allows must thing in but looks out for a certain underseriable types of webpages (i.e. pages with gambling/social networking etc) and blocks them. It can also at the request of management block specific individuals pages sites such as bebo.com facebook.com etc

So you set up with to block specific types of web sites and the add specific ones to block. Its easy enough - just give it a try

I've installed K9 and it blocks off these pages I was trying to block so thanks to all for your advice and help.
