Black Chimney Pot

Would it be possible to fit a black chimney pot over the existing terracotta one or alternatively is it a big job to remove the existing one and replace it with a black pot? We ve a plaster crack around the external of the chimney breast and we also require a cowl so I'll be employing a handyman for this job anyway and while he is at it I would also like to change the chimney pot colour.I know another alternative would be to paint the pot black but it may not with stand the heat/weather.

Heat should not be an issue (two-storey or bungalow); if you have heat sufficient to damage paint on a chimney-pot, the fire-brigade will already be in attendance.

This is a link for preparing and painting terracotta flower-pots with acrylic paint which should be element-resistant - [broken link removed]

Chimney-pots should be no different.
