If a tenant moves out of a rented house and leaves unpaid ESB and Gas bill, does the landlord have to pay any outstanding money or does the bill follow the tenant.

Whoever's name the bill is in will be obliged to pay it

If you made the tenants put the bills into their name then the contracts are between the supplier and your tenants, not your problem
Get a forwarding address and you wil be able to gve it to ESB and Bord Gais

If the bill is sill in your name make sure you hold onto the deposit,

The day the tenants are moving out, go round an read the meters call ESB/BG and get them to give you an estimate
It should not be far out, usually pence,, cents, damn euro

If it was in your name, next time it won't
It can be a expensive lessen to learn
