Having computed my business mileage for 2009 and realised I have done 23,000 miles. This was unusual as I would always have done less than 15,000 miles. The question is it too late for me to claim baks some of the BIK tax paid in 2009 or should this have been done last year.

this really depends on your employer. i would talk to them, because they would need to amend your tax for the year& refund you the diff.they must submit your 2009 P60 to the revenue by mid Feb so Id ask before than because they def wont change it afterwards as this would involve going to RC and admitting mistake was made etc. this could draw on the RC and no employer will do this. to be honest i think its highly unlikely you will get this rectified. it could be messy as the 2009 tax year is finished.

I have approched my employer since and what you state here appears to be correct. It is technically possible but there is a lot of hassle involved even at this stage. I think I will leave it to the two Brians on this occasion. Thanks Irish Sprit
