Bidet: Thinking of installing in new build, opinions?

We are in the process of completing the main bathroom (new build) and would like to have one installed but we have an issue with space.

What are the different types out there on the market?
If you have one installed IS IT USED A LOT?
Is it just another accessory (like the bath) that gets used maybe once or twice a year?
What of the bidet seats? are they really practical?

Any contacts or experience of same would be appreciated.

IMO its a bit of a waste of space as it doesn't get used except as a shelf for magazines, empty toilet rolls, etc. I'm doing the final draft of drawings for my new house and when planning what size I needed to make the en-suite, I stood in the bathroom at home and thought that it was the perfect size for a wet room if I just left out the bidet.

As my mother used to say, they only came into being here as a fashion item, everyone else had them. It has honestly been years since it was used in our home.

We use it whenever. After getting used to them over 20 years ago while working in the Middle East. I know some people who just used theirs for the first week or so. It is just a change of habit. No seat as I don't want to encourage hubby to start doing the crossword on THAT as well

Does anyone have comments to make on the seats that can be retro fitted onto existing toilets

This is an option I am seriously considering as space is an issue.
If we were to go with a toilet and a seperate bidet then the room will be too crowded.

We had one growing up without a seat. Can't see why you'd need one, is it for appearance? They are very handy for washing your feet!
 
Has anyone purchased and installed one of these hand held bathroom bidet sprayers?. Are they practical?
