best way for pensioner to invest SSIA

my Dad is a hearty 77 year old and has approx 17k to invest ~He asked me to search the "interweb" to see where is the best place to invest money I have seen rabodirect and also seen it mentioned here can anyone else recommend.

Have you checked the Financial Best Buys forum for details of the best deposit rates on offer?
 
I would suggest he goes off and spends it on himself, cruise, holiday etc. Why does he want to invest it at 77?
 
he has just had a cruise and can afford further holidays.... I have been the its your money - best financial buys - isn't that where rabobank come out tops~?
