guys,

I'm getting laminate flooring put down in the downstairs of my house. It will be going onto a concrete base (thats been there for 50 years), and I am torn over the type of underlay to put down.

I have narrowed it down to 2 choices

foam with moisture barrier something like this ?

or something like this

ovbiously sound insulation is not the issue here, heat retention is. Would the fiber underlay be overkill, is the foil backed foam good enough

the fiberboard would cost 200 quid more and be about 3mm thicker.

any ideas ?

thanks

Hi,

We have just had a laminate floor put down with the acoustic underlay which has the foil back. Our house is 15 years old and we laid it onto the existing wood floor which was scotspine. I notice the difference big time - the room seems a lot warmer and the noise is also cut down. Not an expert on laying the floor but would be be better to lay it on to battons and then put the laminate on with the foil back between the battons and the laminate?
