Best place to recruit accountants?

I'm trying to recruit an accountant (accounting technician or part qualified accountant) and have used some of the well known online job sites with no success - these sites seem to be flooded with jobs advertised by recruitment firms so my one job is hardly noticed amongst the hundreds of others. Don't want to use a recruitment company as they charge thousands of euro to place someone but that is no guarantee of success when the individual starts working for you. Any ideas, nobody seems to advertise in the newspapers anymore, is it all online now?
 
why not put the add up here, someone may know someone looking for a job. If it's sucessful, make a donation to the site, say a couple of hundred euro finders fee.

Cafe en Seine on a Friday evening might be a good place to start and if you don't find anyone at least you will have had a pleasant evening.
Or, you could make your vacancy known to the careers services in the colleges and they might be able to advertise it for you.
 
Thanks Orga, might try the colleges, not sure if getting drunk in Cafe en Seine on a friday night is the best way of attracting new employees!
 
Two small points of further information -
1. At those prices it would seem that you are highly likely to find accountants though you may have difficulty initially telling them apart from the bankers - experience of both tribes is vital here
2. At no time in my post did I suggest, invite, or encourage the consumption of alcohol or any other intoxicating substance ;-)

I have to say that while I see your point, the use of a recruitment agency is probably your best bet. I know that when I was looking for a job there was very little point in looking at newspapers & even on websites it took a lot of time to filter through all the different jobs - with the recruitment agency they just presented me with the jobs that suited my requirements (well not always but they did filter out a lot!).
 
As an qualified accountant I would usually turn to the job section in Fridays Irish times, if I was on the look out for a new job.
 
You could place an advert in the "Accountancy Ireland" magazine which is a magazine produced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland every two months. They have a section in the magazine dedicated to IATIs (Accounting technicians) giving details of job vacancies, etc.
 
I think it must be very difficult for people to hire part-qualified or newly qualified accountants in Ireland at the moment. I think most of Irish accountants have a choice of where they want to work due to the number of jobs available. The decision as to whether or not they take one job over another seems to stem from personal contacts within the firm they are joining. Being one myself I can certainly that it influenced my decision to take certain roles.

Aside from the usual newspaper ads etc, you could try putting one on the institute's site www.icai.ie or join a rugby/golf club and put your Cafe En Seine skills to use there.

Incidentally, you would be struggling to recruit a part qualified accountant if their trainnig contracts have not been completed.
 
If it is an accounting technician you are looking for, then can I suggest that you contact a number of Institutes of Technology and the IATI?
 
Advertise in a local paper. Or if you know any accountants ask them do they know anyone that would be suitable. They might know someone on the look out for a change of job.
 
There seems to be incrediably strong demand for Accountants, Accountancy Graduates and PQ Accountancts at the moment. Anyone i've talked to in year three of my course (DCU Accountancy & Finance Degree) has already got a job lined up for them upon completion of exams in May. Most have signed up with one of the big four.

It's no joke - there's people in the bottom half of the final year class, with only the most average results, being offered a wide choice of prospects upon completion.

I'd suggest contacting the College career offices aswell, can't do any harm and you might be able to find someone soon to graduate with an Accountacy degree who wants to pursue the professional exams. DCU, Maynooth and UCC all run pure Accountancy Degrees, whilst UCD, Trinners etc have Commerce style degrees with specialism options including Accountancy.
 
I think the ICAI and IATI have a placement service so try them - they may be able to help ya.
