Becoming a Teacher

Hi,

Ok here's the story I am currently a trainee in a big four firm, I don't love/like it and I think teaching is what I'd love to do.

My degree is in Economics and Legal Science followed by and LLB. I think I would like to do secondary teaching and while I wouldn't mind teaching Economic/Business my passion is English and I would love to get into teaching that. I have found a conversion course in Cork which basically covers second and third years of an Arts degree in one year, would a course like this be beneficial to get into teaching or would I be better off just applying to go to England next year with a view to doing a PGCE in Economics/Business? I am about to begin a JEB course here to will be qualified to teach IT by the time next September comes around all going well. If I did the conversion course is there any chance that some of the UK colleges would allow me onto the PGCE course to teach English or would that be complete waste of time?

Help!!!!

Welcome to AAM, Grainne. You ask many questions!

You might get more/better answers to some of them on the Teaching/Lecturing forum of Boards.ie (can't provide a direct link because the site is down for scheduled maintenance today).

Best of luck but teaching numbers are being cut (or are going to be cut) while at the same time the world and its mother are trying to get into teaching.

Thanks guys, I know, many questions, thats only half of whats going round in my head so you can imagine how much fun this is!!! Thanks anyway!!
