becoming a guard???

Hi, I am just enquiring, if you had a drink driving offence a few years back, so driving again, can you become a gaurd and also, do you have to go to the Garda college or can you train in evening courses as working during the day? If so, were are these courses?? Thanks for any help.

Just found this info (below) on the Garda website www.garda.ie, perhaps it would be a good idea to go to this open day and get all the information you require. Also on the website it has a section on applying for the garda. You can also do a pre test for the garda as the interview is suppose to be fairly hard.

An Open Day will be held at the Garda College, Templemore, Co. Tipperary on Wednesday 16th April 2008 from 10 am to 2 pm. This Open Day may be of interest to any persons interested in pursuing a career in An Garda Síochána or for those interested in applying for the Garda Reserve.

if you are in dublin there is the FAS show in dublin this weekend and there is a section there about the guards, im sure someone there could answer your questions and pick up information

Hi ZeeDee, thanks very much for the advice, an open day is exactly what's needed. It's for a friend who has been threatening to do it for years but never got around to it or commit more like, so hopefully he will go along and the advice he gets on the day will give him the push he needs. He has been in the army and he is now a security guard so hopefully he will. Thanks again.
