I got this e-mail in work today about disposal of batteries just wondering did anyone out there know about these fines and possiblility of prison, if batteries are placed in your domestic waste bin.

Yes, since the Waste Management Act of 1996 it has been illegal to place any material that is deemed a hazardous waste in your domestic waste bin. Those found to be doing this could be liable to prosecution, with fines of up to €1900, and up to two years in prison for serious offenders, although the courts could impose fines of up to 12 million euro!!!
