Did a search but can't see this question oreviously...

We bought contemporary bath with nice contemporary taps to go with it.

Plumber said taps couldn't be fitted - we directed him to discuss with the hop where we bought them.
He came back and told us that the shop agree, taps can't be fitted underneath without damaging bath and/or bath surround.
I spoke with shop and they said that no, this is not what they said - they told the plumber that the taps can be fitted, just with a lot more effort on plumbers part.

When we went back to plumber he said that he'd have to use flexible piping and that he wouldn't recommend it as the pressure in the system means that the pipes would start leaking in few years.

Now - thing is, we don't know whether this statement about flexible piping is true, or whether he is just trying to avoid the extra work mentioned by the shop assistant in the bathroom suppliers.

So - question is, do any of you have any experience of flexible piping? Good or bad? would you recommend?
We would only use it on the bath taps and rigid piping everywhere else around the house.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Interesting, any picture of the bath?

Statement regarding fexli pipes and pressure is false, in my experiance.

over 30 years at this and never yet came across such taps, cant see how it could be that awkward, did plumber fit bath before taps by any chance, there is absolutly nothing wrong with flexi piping as DavyJones has said. Your plumber is spoofing.

I know nothing about plumbing, but we used flexi piping throughout our self build. Completed in December 06 and we've had no problems.we've since added a shower room and it was easy to take feeds from the pipes to this room.(don't ask me the details, i was just an interested onlooker!)

Are you sure your plumber is a plumber?,sounds easy to me ie for a plumber to put taps on a bath, without damaging your bath.they can either put taps on or not,if they can not find some one who can and deduct their price from your plumbers price. The flexible pipe thing is just a red herring.

AFAIK - The flexi pipes are fine - we had our bathroom completely made over about 3/4 years ago and our plumber ( also a friend) used these and he was very happy with them and he is a plumber of over 40 years experience.

Read the advice above & really found it a great help - just about to get a job done in a bathroom & have been getting "vibes" from the plumber we were discussing it with about "how difficult" it was going to be fitting a new bath/pipes etc. Now I have some ammunition to shoot him down with!!! Thanks - Ask About Money is proving to be full of useful information - love it!
