Bathroom floor tiles - slate? How to clean?

There's black tiles on my bathroom floor, and they look like slate, maybe not.

There is a white residue on some of them, even after cleaning them.

Anyone know how I could get them to come up properly? And would I need to seal them in any way to keep them in good nick?

I have black slate tiles on the bathroom floor. I reseal them every year or so. This might be overkill, but I dont have the problems you describe. Given that Coke removes limescale from kettles I wonder if it might work for tiles? Dunno, but someone else might, or you could try it on a small hidden area first.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah I am having a lot of problems with limescale in my water. Terrible. I did clean the tiles when I moved in, but they then went white.

So do I need to get them cleaned before sealing them? Or just seal them as they stand? Will it not seal the white stains too? (sorry if this is a stupid question).

Plus, could anyone recommend a sealant?

Lithofin (and others) also do an acid based cleaner that will strip limescale, grout residue, etc. from tiles. Use the stain stop/ sealer after that.
