Basic young family policy

Hi all

Can anyone give advice on a policy for my partner, daughter and myself? Partner is 34 turning 35 in February. I'm 35 and took out my first personal policy with VHI this year to avoid LCR. Child is only 6 months. My policy is up for renewal in January.

Looking for very basic good value cover as we are all (currently) fit and healthy. Happy enough to have excesses on the higher side.

Adult Option;
1. VHI One Plan; price 715pa; all public and private hospitals fully covered with a max excess of 500 x 2 per year for all private admissions.
Day case excess is 150 per procedure.
Note; there is no excess to pay in any public hospital.

Child Option;
2. VHI Start Plan; price 103pa. A selected list of public hospitals are fully covered on this plan. The list includes the 3 childrens hospitals in Dublin
which are relevant to your 6 month old baby. Thats if you are based in Dublin. It is important to check this list to ensure the selected list suits
your location.

Just to highlight, you could have added your newborn onto your VHI plan upto 13 weeks after she was born, for free upto your renewal date in
January. Its too late now, but in case you have another child in the years ahead, make sure to add any newborns onto yours or your partners
policy free of charge.

Thanks for that.
I did add her and it was useful enough for a few selective activities like swimming and osteopathy actually.

So theres no real family package as such, you just pick and choose the best policies for each member of your family?
 
No, there's no family package and you don't have to be on the same plans as its usually not the best price available for children.

You can be with different providers if it suits. VHI are the only provider that allows children to be insured on their own, an adult is just named
on the policy but only the child is insured.

Just wanted to pick your brain again.
Is there any logic to picking the rock bottom VHI Start Plan to save some money in our circumstances when you have never needed any healthcare or anticipate same? Fit and healthy adults in our mid 30's (currently!)
Or are the basic policies just not worth the savings?
 
Sorry to hijack thread I would also be interested in opinions on this we are a young family in very good health but I want to get a basic policy to avoid LCR penalties later on and to have some cover in place should it be needed.

I know it will prevent LCR penalties when we are older but is a very basic policy offering cover in public hospitals only a bit of a waste of time from a cover perspective?

I have an issue with a wisdom tooth that may need extraction at some stage in the future. Would one of these basic policies cover this type of thing (I know it won’t cover it straight away regardless of what policy I go for)
