Very interesting that Bank of Ireland are hiring 150 technology staff while they also are closing branches and letting go of their "financial" employees, how times have changed. Around 2003 bank of Ireland outsourced their then IT section to Hewlett. Packard because it was a "non core" function and they wanted to concentrate on their core financial activities. Then that outsourced IT section caught the then CEO Mike Soden trying to book escorts on a business trip to Las Vegas.
Now it looks like IT is becoming a core function and physical branches and tellers are being done away with.

I could be wrong, but I think the IT Section outsourced to Hewlett was their hardware \ tech support side.
The staff hired here relate to software development and data analysis of their own bespoke banking systems.
Still interesting to see they are doing with their own software route rather than outsourcing that aspect of it.

Correct, it was support and maintenance of core systems that was outsourced. Most of the banks have done that. No different then any other major company in Ireland to be honest.

The roles BOI are advertising will be capable of managing 3rd party developers if needed as much of it is BA/PM type roles
