Sorry, my mistake — I meant to say they've introduced "simpler, clearer" pricing... :rolleyes:

  • Transaction charges other than for automated and electronic payments rise by between 25% and 50% from 23rd February.
  • Curiously, they will now charge 1c a go for contactless payments, whereas it remains free to use your debit card for traditional PIN-based transactions.
  • Electronic and automated payments drop from 20c to 10c each.

I think it's ridiculous that online banking charges are not free. Banks should be able to cover these by a fixed fee. In BOI's case the €5 quarterly fee should include online transactions.

On average IT staff out number normal banking staff by ratio of 7:3 and IT salaries are much higher, then there are the data centres, the back up data centres, the networks, the redundant networks and the list goes on... and you expect it can be covered by €5 a month... not that is ridiculous!

I recently move all my banking from BoI to KBC - Cheaper fees, much much better customer service and a nice mobile Ap. No contest.
