Folks,

I recently thought how nice it would be to get new windows. I haven't got the first idea what kind of money I'm looking at. So I'm not looking for precise estimations, and true i could go and get quotes, but I'd have to measure all the windows and go through a lot of effort which might turn out to be in vein.

Anyways, I have one of these typical ex council 2 bedroom houses in drimnagh, with 2 big windows front and rear and two tiny ones on the side (end of terrace). Also have sliding patio doors (but might not replace them). At the moment I have aluminium windows, and ideally I'd like alu clad ones, but just in general the price range would be good to know.... so if anyone has done something similar, please let me know, even if it was pvc or wood windows. Many thanks for all help!

For a VERY rough rule of thumb for timber or aluclad, allow about €1,000-plus per window. But of course it depends on quality of window, sizes, ease of access etc etc.

Here are a couple of companies who might give you a quote:

Kingsbridge Joinery (David Geraghty)

Other companies to think about are Rationnel and possibly Carlson.

Marvin will be considerably more expensive but they are top of the range.

Visit all these companies and look at their showrooms.

i used Templeogue windows for a 4 bed semi d, and for white pvc paid 5k.
very happy with them and a lot of folk on here have used templeogue.

Thanks guys, that's really helpful. I'll have a bit of saving ahead of me yet, but it's doable! I had a little search on the internet about those aluclad windows, and of course I like Internorm windows... I'd say they are even more expensive, but once I have saved around the 6K mark, I will enquire further (I hate getting a quote when I already know I can't afford it (yet)). Thanks for all your help.

Best of luck with your project. Prices are falling so don't forget to haggle with your suppliers. I got about 20% off a recent quote for aluclad timber sliding sash windows. There are a couple of threads on windows here on AAM if you do a search.

Ball park budget rate figures.

Aluminium windows - €400m2
Hardwood windows - €300m2
Pine windows - €275m2

We got lovely timber windows through McMahon and Nagle almost 18 months ago. They bettered Carlson's and Rationel's quotes and their guys were really nice to deal with.
