Available Builders in Dublin - do they exist?

Can anyone recommend a good builder in the Dublin area for a home extension?

I've given my plans to three builders so far (one as far back as August) and NONE have come back to me with a price.

At this stage, I'm seriously considering moving as a n alternative (notwithstanding the stamp duty invloved).

Any help would be very much appreciated.
 
Builder recommendation

I can recommend Dermot Walsh - Micron, an excellent builder who did my own extension. They specialise in extensions, sun-rooms, conservatories etc. His number is 4523860 or 087 2574002 or alternatively call Stephen Walsh on 0862713239. You should definitely get a price back within a short time-frame. Hope this helps, you must be driven mad waiting since August!

Based on the recommendation from this site, we got in touch with Dermot Walsh during the week, and so far have been fully impressed with his approach and responsiveness.

Whilst we have yet to see how much his prices will be, he's been very quick to come visit our house, discuss our needs and suggest other possibilities, and provide local reference customer names. He's going to come back to us over the weekend with his son for a further assessment .. but as above a welcome breath of fresh air ... watch this space.

Dermot did indeed come back with a reasonable price, a wee bit more than we had hoped for - but not as bad as we feared ...

Indeed we went to visit one of his reference sites, and they were full of praise for him. We actually changed our design considerably based on what he done for this family, and he came up with other ideas some of which were very useful and we're more than happy with the design now. The price has gone up from the original one, but the design bears no resemblance to the original so he's fine there.

He says he only deals with one property at a time, and so was able to start work within one week of when we originally talked to him. The only other contender who we were talking to was saying 6 to 8 weeks before he could start ;-(

So we've gone with Dermot - he's on site (I hope) as I write. He's done a couple of days work, we had 4 men on site at 8am on Saturday morning.

So far so good ...

It seems you were lucky with your choice of builder. Even a wait of 6-6 weeks wouldn't be bad if the builder was good.

Out of curiosity can you say what it works out at per sq ft for your extension. I am planning on building approx 400 sq ft extension and was wondering how much I should budget for
 
Try Sheerin Construction - 087 6810427 - they did an extension and attic conversion for my sister recently and she said they did a good job at a decent price and showed up when they said they would.
