The bank automatically takes 10% of interest earned as I am a non resident.

I use BOI to transfer money and I'm charged €5 euro for each transfer and westpac charge me $10 from their side. I don't think the banks give the nest rate but its easy and secure.

When you need to send money overseas from Australia, you can do so via:
  • The Internet
  • Overseas telegraphic transfer
If you want to check the currency exchange rates before you send money overseas, check their exchange rate page.

Internet

You can transfer money overseas, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from your own home or office using the Internet. Visit www.westpac.com.au.

You will need to be:

  • A Westpac customer
  • Registered for Internet and Westpac Protect SMS Code. (They txt a number to your phone and set it up on the day you open the account)
Fees and charges:

When transferring money overseas by internet, the fee is $20.

How to organise:

  • Sign in to Internet banking
  • Select ‘Overseas’ from the list of options
  • Follow the steps to send a payment
Max transfer: $10,000
