Assessor asking me for my bank details.

Large worldwide company and several insurance companies here use them.

I had a claim after a car literally drove into the front of my business last summer and Sedgwick dealt with the claim and payment and very efficiently too.

I made a Storm claim earlier this year and assessor needed bank details to finalise and pay. This was external assessor for Zurich. I think it is relatively standard practice - he just wanted to issue complete sign-off.
Also noticed that recently banks and building societies are nearly always asking for ID when making withdrawals at a cash desk so it should be safe giving account details. As mentioned, you already give people your details if you write a cheque....

If I were uncomfortable about something like this I would either e-mail Aviva or ring them and ask them to confirm why the Assessor needs this information. Better safe than sorry especially if it leaves you feeling relieved that everything is in order. You are after all a long time customer of Aviva so it shouldn't be a problem for them to deal with your query.
 
I was recently asked for my bank account details from a company and they provided me with a secure link/email to send my details.

I think it reasonable that a company should provide this especially a company doing work on behalf of Aviva who have very strict protocols in place for their customers.
 
Sedgwick may be handling the entire claim including payment so they need your details to pay you.

But ask for a cheque instead and then you can complain about how it took 3 months to get paid
