ARF when someone dies

What is the procedure if a married person with say , 3 adult children dies and leaves a substantial ARF , without making a will ? Is it considered part of the estate to be distributed among the four next of kin or does it go straight to the remaining spouse tax free ?

Thanks Clubman, I'll go through that in more detail this evening. Presumably so an ARF can be broken up into multiple ARFs depending on how many beneficiaries there are ?
