Are upright vacum cleaners any good?

Was tempted to get a Miele cat and dog cos of all the great reviews but am bothered by how hard it is to store these hoovers, the tubes always seem to be falling all over the place waiting to trip us up.

So just wondering if anyones used an upright hoover and are they as good as the other type and easier to store?
