Hi All,

I wanted to post here in the hopes someone might have heard about any jobs in the above categories for the Cork Area? I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the recruitment websites. It's the first time I have ever had difficulty sourcing jobs.

I have fantastic references from my previous employers and I have excellent computer skills with 55 WPM typing - I have examination records from testing to show my skills. I am polite, friendly and courteous at all times, very presentable and extremely organized. Anywhere in the Cork region at all is perfect. What I am looking for is full time permanent employment - a job I can really settle in to and make my own.

If anyone has heard of any positions recently please let me know, or perhaps direct me to a good recruitment agency.

Many thanks, and apologies to the moderators on here if this post is inappropriate - I'm just so frustrated at the moment and looking for good advice.

I know a woman who got a job as receptionist/typist. She had pc skills and typed 40 wpm. her salary? €15k p/a. (yep, less than minimum wage because the employer figured there was a training aspect to her role). I know you can't be fussy but small accountant practices and solicitors are the worst.

I don't mean to get you down... just be aware the job situation is absolutely dire! Especially as newly qualified graduates usually set their sights on office admin work when they can't get a job in the area they did their degree in.

I'd recommend you also apply for jobs that require basic book-keeping in addition to receptionist and office work - just the likes of entering invoices onto a computer, or an aspect of credit control to the job. It might widen the net for you a bit.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Tenchi-fan, thanks for posting My first job at 18 was Receptionist to a Consulting Engineering firm and P.A. to Head Consultant and owner. Loved the job but felt I needed to move on to gain experience in other roles. If I could only turn back the clock now!! There was book-keeping, diary management, etc. included in this job, I basically shadowed my boss at all times and kept his scatty head in place I still see him from time to time in the local area. Lovely man and a lovely company.

At this stage, if someone offered me a full time permanent job with a nice work atmosphere I would be happy to take a pay decrease. I'm just so fed up of being chopped and changed in my role now - no stability, constant changing of my role within the company, no contract, etc. etc. I have been changed job roles, locations and working hours - and not in the good way! It's time to jump from the sinking ship.

Welcome to my world... senior PA with 60 wpm & 97% skills in all MS Office apps and sitting on my bum for the past 3 months. The last job I went for, I didn't get because the MD didn't believe I would be able to commute. Exactly the same distance as the job I held for the past 7 years... that really peed me off  Hang on in there pet... we'll all get sorted eventually

Networking. Ear to the ground. Worming your way in - whatever you want to call it - that's my advice.

Join clubs/organisations - if you have the time, sign up for something voluntary as places like this tend to attract altruistic types.

Thanks Babaduck, I suppose all we can do is hangon in there! Its nervewrecking enough about interviewing again after so long, and now to find theres nothing to apply to!! If I could leave the country tomorrow I would
