Hi there, a conversation came up tonight between friends about rental of a house.
Landlord is registered with RTB but not declaring income to revenue. Are the two departments linked or can he keep it quite without anyone finding out??
I see that they can share info but wonder in reality does it actually happen if not alerted by unhappy tenant. He has been registered a few years now but not been contacted as yet.
Be under no illusion, it's a question of when, not if.
Unpaid tax accumulates interest at 8% per annum and if a person approaches Revenue they can mitigate their penalties to 5%-10%, rather than potentially 30%-100% if Revenue come knocking.

A friend of mine is on sick pay but also on illness benefit. Sick pIck through paye. He had already declared the illness benefit in his annual return but got a letter a few months later from the Revenue which could be paraphrased as “ah hah we got you!” When he told them that he declared it, response there was none!
