Hi,
l live in the Drumcondra area, Dublin 3.
Can anybody recommend a good architect, who might specialise in small residential jobs, also require a reputable builder.
We are interested in converting our attic, and expanding dinning room, and kitchen.
Concerned I might end up with total cowboys.
Any guidance /feedback appreciated.

best of luck to you! I have a very similar project to you, and found it almost impossible to get an architect. Many of the bigger firms will not take on a project of this size, because they are in such high demand at the moment. You are best off getting a list from www.riai.ie and simply ringing through the list methodically to find out who is interested. You could also look through these archives [broken link removed] and [broken link removed] as they list the suppliers at the end.
I am now on my third architect in a year - the first was working for himself and did not have the resources to actually pull the project together; the next disappeared off the face of the earth; the third is a classmate of a friend of a friend. I would be interested to hear how you get on.
Have to second the recommendation for RIAI - unfortunately there are cowboys in EVERY profession including Architects. We also learnt at great expense (financial & timewise) that you don't actually have to be qualified to call yourself an Architect! A good architect is expensive but then again, so is your house - most likely the most expensive asset you own (& your bank) so spend wisely.
