My son just finished his first year in FAS and rang his company and they told him they had no work for him so basically no job. Anyone know any other websites apart from FAS who advertise for apprenticeships?

Hopefully you'll get some suggestions on sites from other AAMers, personally no knowledge in that area.

Given the current market conditions, he should try and be as pro-active as possible about finding an apprenticeship.

In his old role, did he make any contacts with others who might be interested in taking him on? Did he query his former employer / work mates on others who may be in a position to take him on (being able to get a referral from a former work mate or employer could be a big help to get a foot in the door)?

Theirs obviously a reason he got let go, im not saying he wasnt a model student or anything, but its unusual he was let go, if he finished his first year, he has that under his belt and should be checking fas and the evening herald etc daily, their is always apprenticeships offered to someone on there 2nd year or more then those starting a fresh.
i wish him all the best for the future and commemorate you for seeking advice for your son, i just wish i had that support when i was young
peace
