Applying for BTEA allowance after being on JB and FAS course.

My OH has been accepted onto a course starting in September. He was on Jobseekers Benefit up until April of this year when he started a FAS course which finishes up next week. He is signing back onto JB next week and will then be claiming Back To Education allowance which he meets the criteria for.

The question is when he signs back on to JB should he tell them that he's going to applying for BTEA a few weeks later. He's worried that if he does it might jeopradise him getting back onto Job Seekers Benefit which in turn would impact the BTEA.

Why would he tell them about what he plans to do? Plans can be changed. I wouldn't complicate things, sign on for JB, get that sorted first and then make arrangements re BTEA. He will have to re-establish entitlement to JB or another relevant SW allowance/benefit first before he can be eligible for BTEA anyway so first things first!

Re: Applying for BTEA allowance after being on JB and FAS course. Please help.

More drama. OH rang Social Welfare today and they advised it will be 6-8 weeks before his application to go back on JB is processed. That will be mid October when his course will already be well started. We don't know what to do. Can he claim Back to Education Allowance before he goes back on JB? Please can anyone help.

If he puts in his application for JB even though its not processed yet it still counts as time on JB as they would back date it anyway.
I would go ahead and put in the application for JB and then put in the application for BTEA.
I am on JB at the moment, going back to college in september and already submitted my application for BTEA.
