Applying for a reduction in USC

I recently started work after being on Jobseeker's Allowance for a period. During that time I successfully applied for a Medical Card. I read somewhere that because I have this card I can reduce my USC from 7% to 3 or 4%.

I registered for the revenue.ie service hoping I'd be able to apply for this discount here but from what I could say I cannot. Does anyone know what the best way of going about this is?

Edit: Just noticed that gm88 has already asked roughly the same question today

Hi Sam. As far as I know you only pay 4% max if you hold a full medical card.

I'm trying to figure out how my friend gets a rebate for the past 2 tax years. She did contact wages dept at work & gave them details of her card no etc & they can deduct the correct amount of USC for the current year & you should be able to do the same.

If you earn less than €10k you don't pay any USC.

Hope that helps.

ring your RC 1890 paye number and advise them...they should have a record of your medical card on record, they than advise employer of this and you wont pay 7% USC. if you have already this year than should be refunded through your salary once the employer recieves new details from RC.

Thanks, what's RC though?

Revenue Commissioners. Employers always have to be notified by Revenue before USC can be reduced.
