Anyone know why the €200 property tax is due again - May 2010?

Anyone know why the €200 property tax is due again - May 2010 being the deadline when we already paid this tax in August 2009. What happen to the "year" Surely this should not be due until August 2010?

was this charge introduced in a mini budget in april 2009, so that is the reason it is now due?

Yep, had my email advising me to pay before July 1st to avoid the 20 euro charges.

Does anyone know if the councils are chasing down people who haven't paid? Or are the just counting on the honesty of all second home owners? I know plenty of people who never bothered paying the first time and haven't heard a thing.

We paid ours last week to Donegal Co. Council and nobody told us that it wasn't due until 1st July.

It's due before 1st July - you can pay it from now until then without paying penalties. They aren't going to tell you to take your money back and pay it again in 6 weeks. You are still covered for the entire period, even if you pay it before July 1st.
