Anyone know anything about an Irish medium school called Colaiste Oiriall in Monaghan

Does anyone know anything about an Irish medium school called Colaiste Oiriall in Monaghan? It appears to have many positive attributes: young enthusiastic teachers, small size (150 pupils) and, ironically, an emphasis on English whcih would not exist in an English medium school.

The only negative seems to be theat Chemistry is not an option due to lack of demand. Would I be correct in saying that without this a pupil would not be able to study medicine?

Not sure how long it is open. It may only have 150 pupils, but if there are not yet 6th years in it, then it could have much more over the next few years. All I know about it is that it is in hte same grounds as Beech Hill College. Can't help with the chemistry question, sorry!

it doesnt matter what subjects you study, as long as you have enough points for the course. You need not have any science subjects at all in you Leaving Cert and still be accepted. Its all about points not what you study.

As rediculous at it sounds that how the system works here.

This is not so. The standard entry requirements for at least some of the medical courses require science at Leaving Cert level. I haven't checked them all out, but from their websites:

TCD

3A At least a higher level grade B and a higher level grade C in two of physics,
chemistry, biology, physics/chemistry, agricultural science. Physics/chemistry
may not be presented with physics or chemistry. Agricultural science may not be
presented with biology. If you do not have some qualification in physics, you must
present mathematics at grade C on the ordinary Leaving Certificate paper, grade​

D on the higher Leaving Certificate paper or grade B at GCSE level.

Irish Leaving Certificate
Six Year Programme - A minimum of six subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination, which must include Irish, English, Mathematics, a third language (NUI Matriculation requirements) and a science subject from the group Physics, Chemistry, Physics/Chemistry, or Biology.
Five Year Programme - Students may be eligible for entry to the five year programme with two sciences. Applicants must obtain a minimum of six subjects, which must include Irish, English, Mathematics, a second language and a minimum of grade C3 in higher level Chemistry and Physics or Biology.

There may be some courses (incl. Graduate entry ones) where you don't have to have done a science subject for Leaving Cert, but not doing one will, at a minimum, very much limit your options - and would you want to do that when it's difficult enough already?

Also, some courses specifically require chemistry: I know the five year medical programme in RCSI (see above) and pharmacy in TCD require honours chemistry at LCert.
